This Privacy Policy explains what information Router Haven ("we," "us" or "our") collects when you visit routerhaven.com (the "Site"), how that information is used, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It also covers our use of cookies and how to report copyright concerns under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.

Information We Collect

Information You Give Us

We only collect personal information you choose to send us, such as when you:

  • Email us or use our contact form (your name, email address and anything you include in your message, including attachments like screenshots)
  • Subscribe to a newsletter, if we offer one in the future

Please don't send passwords, account numbers or other sensitive details. If a screenshot shows your public IP address, Wi-Fi password or ISP account information, blur it out before sending.

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit the Site, some information is collected automatically by our servers, our analytics provider and our advertising partners. This can include:

  • Your IP address and approximate location (city or region, based on your IP)
  • Browser type, device type and operating system
  • Pages you view, how long you stay and how you arrived (for example, from a search engine)
  • Date and time of your visit
  • Cookie identifiers and similar online identifiers

We don't use this information to identify you personally.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Reply to your messages, questions and correction requests
  • Understand which guides are useful and which need improvement
  • Keep the Site secure, prevent spam and protect against abuse
  • Display advertising that helps keep the Site free to read
  • Comply with legal obligations

We don't sell the information you send us by email or through our contact form.

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. We and our partners also use similar technologies such as pixels, local storage and scripts. Together, we call these "cookies" in this policy.

Types of Cookies We Use

Essential cookies. Needed for the Site to work and stay secure. These include security and performance cookies set by our content delivery network, Cloudflare, which help block malicious traffic. They can't be switched off through our cookie settings.

Analytics cookies. Help us understand how visitors use the Site. We use Google Analytics, described below.

Advertising cookies. Used by our advertising partners to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ad performance and, in some cases, show ads based on your interests.

Preference cookies. Remember choices you make, such as your cookie consent settings.

Managing Cookies

Where required by law, including for visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time through the cookie settings link in the Site's footer.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings, where you can block or delete them. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the Site work. Browser help pages explain how:

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors find and use the Site. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as pages visited, time on page, device type and approximate location. We use this information in aggregate form to improve our content.

Google Analytics 4 doesn't log or store full IP addresses. Where consent is required, Google Analytics runs only after you agree to analytics cookies.

You can learn more about how Google uses this data at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. To opt out of Google Analytics across all websites, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Advertising

Router Haven is free to read because it's supported by advertising. We currently work with Adsterra to display ads on the Site. We may add or switch to other advertising networks in the future, and we'll update this policy when we do.

Advertising partners and their technology vendors may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses and similar technologies to:

  • Serve ads on the Site
  • Limit the number of times you see the same ad
  • Measure ad views, clicks and performance
  • Show ads based on your interests or past browsing, where permitted
  • Detect and prevent ad fraud

These partners collect information directly from your browser under their own privacy policies, which we don't control. You can read Adsterra's practices in the Adsterra Privacy Policy.

To learn more about interest-based advertising and opt out of it from participating companies, visit:

Opting out doesn't remove ads. It means the ads you see won't be based on your interests.

Some articles contain affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, the retailer may use cookies to record that the sale came from our Site so we can earn a commission. We don't receive your payment details or personal purchase information from these retailers.

Our guides often link to manufacturer websites, internet providers and other outside resources. We aren't responsible for the content or privacy practices of those websites. Please review their privacy policies before sharing any information with them.

How We Share Information

We share information only in these situations:

  • Service providers: with companies that help us run the Site, such as our web hosting provider, Cloudflare (security and content delivery), Google (analytics) and email providers. They may only use the information to provide services to us.
  • Advertising partners: as described in the Advertising section above.
  • Legal reasons: when required by law, court order or government request, or to protect our rights, our users or the public.
  • Business transfers: if the Site is sold or transferred, visitor information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

Data Retention

  • Emails and contact form messages are kept as long as needed to respond and follow up, and for up to two years afterward, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
  • Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics settings, which we set to 14 months.
  • Server and security logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting purposes.

Data Security

We use reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, including HTTPS encryption across the Site and security protections from our hosting and content delivery providers. No method of transmitting or storing data online is fully secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights:

  • Access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction: ask us to fix inaccurate information
  • Deletion: ask us to delete your personal information
  • Objection or restriction: object to or limit certain uses of your information
  • Portability: receive your information in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent: change your cookie choices at any time through the footer cookie settings link

To use any of these rights, email caleb@routerhaven.com. We may need to verify your request before acting on it, and we'll respond within the time required by applicable law.

Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland

Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, we process personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Consent: for analytics and advertising cookies
  • Legitimate interests: for site security, fraud prevention and replying to messages you send us
  • Legal obligation: where processing is required by law

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Some of our service providers process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where this happens, transfers rely on safeguards such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.

US State Privacy Rights (Including California)

Residents of California and several other US states have rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA. These include the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising.

We don't sell personal information for money. However, the use of advertising cookies may count as "selling" or "sharing" under some state laws. You can opt out through the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in the Site's footer, or by emailing us. We also honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals sent by your browser as a valid opt-out request.

We won't treat you differently for using any of your privacy rights.

Children's Privacy

The Site is intended for a general audience and isn't directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK). We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

We review every valid notice and remove or disable access to infringing material promptly. Notices missing the required information may not be processed. Knowingly submitting a false claim can make you liable for damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f).

Counter-Notification

If your content was removed because of a DMCA notice and you believe the removal was a mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice that includes:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature
  2. Identification of the removed material and the location where it appeared before removal
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the material was removed by mistake or misidentification
  4. Your name, address and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you're outside the United States, any judicial district where Router Haven may be found), and that you'll accept service of process from the person who filed the original notice

Once we receive a valid counter-notice, we may restore the material within 10 to 14 business days unless the original complainant notifies us that they've filed a court action.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Site changes, for example when we add new advertising partners or features. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be highlighted on the Site.
